Arkansas State's football program has had success on the field, winning or sharing the last three Sun Belt Conference championships.

Their success rate at retaining coaches?  No so much.

ASU will be looking for its fifth coach in five years, with Bryan Harsin accepting the head coaching job at Boise State.

Arkansas State fired Steve Roberts following the 2010 season and replaced him with Hugh Freeze.  Freeze won the SBC championship and was hired by Ole Miss.  ASU then hired Gus Malzahn, who won a title and then bolted for Auburn.

When announcing the hiring of Harsin, athletics director Terry Mohajir said it was important that the Red Wolves hire a coach that would stay more than one year.

But the lure of Boise State was too much for Harsin to turn down.  He was the offensive coordinator under Chris Petersen from 2006-2010 before heading to Texas.  Petersen recently accepted the job at the University of Washington.

According to a report by the Associated Press and espn.com, Harsin, who signed a five year deal with ASU worth $700,000 annually, will ahave to pay a buyout of a million dollars.

Harsin will not coach the Red Wolves when they face Ball State in the godaddy.com Bowl in Mobile on January 5.
