Who is the best player the New Orleans Saints ever drafted from the Vanderbilt Commodores?

From May 1 until the start of the 2016 NFL season on September 11, we’re going to list the best players that the Saints ever drafted from all 128 FBS schools, as of 2015.

Of course, there are a number of schools, including Air Force, Appalachian St., Arizona, Army, Baylor, Boise St., Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Florida, Central Michigan, East Carolina, FAU, FIU, Hawaii, ULM, Miami (Ohio), Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Navy, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico St., Ohio, Rice, Rutgers, San Jose St., South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss, TCU, Temple, UNLV, Utah St., and UTEP, in which the Saints have never drafted a player.

Earlier, we looked at the best player that the Saints ever drafted out of Utah.

Today, we spotlight the best player the Saints ever drafted from Vanderbilt.

Our pick is going to be DeMond Winston, a linebacker, who played four seasons for the Saints, in 1990, and then again, from 1992-1994.

And there’s a good reason Winston is the pick; it’s because he’s actually the only player that the Saints ever drafted out of Vanderbilt.

The Saints selected Winston in the 4th round of the 1990 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 239-pound Winston played in all 16 games in his rookie season, mostly on special teams, while totaling four tackles.

After missing the 1991 season, Winston rejoined the Saints in 1992, and over the next two years played in all 32 games, all as a reserve/special teamer, accumulating 14 tackles.

Wearing #92, Winston appeared in three games with the Saints in 1994, prior to retiring.

In four seasons in the NFL, all with the Saints, Winston appeared in 51 games, all as a reserve, compiling 18 tackles.
