After starting with a list of 20, the Big 12 has narrowed its list of potential expansion candidates to at least 12, possibly 13, according to a report from Brett McMurphy at ESPN.com.

Those being eliminated from consideration are Arkansas State, Boise State, East Carolina, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Diego State and UNLV.

Of the remaining candidates, most are currently members of the American Conference:  Houston, Cincinnati, Connecticut, UCF, USF, SMU, Temple and Tulane.  Two Mountain West teams, Colorado State and Air Force, Rice of Conference USA and football independent BYU are the other known finalists.

It is unknown whether Memphis is part of the group.

Representatives from each school will make a presentation to Big 12 officials in Dallas sometime next week.
