For most of the season, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns hitters have been covering up the sins of the pitching staff.

Tuesday night, the pitchers gave some payback.

Three Cajuns combined on a four hitter as Louisiana defeated Appalachian State 6-2 to advance to the double elimination bracket at the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament.

The Cajuns advance to take on #2 seed Georgia Southern Wednesday at 11:30 am CDT.  The game will be heard on ESPN 1420 with pre game 30 minutes before the first pitch.

Austin Perrin (4-5), the second Cajuns' pitcher was credited with the win.  Perrin pitched three innings and allowed just one base runner to reach base.  Gunner Leger came on and retired all four batters he faced for his fourth save of the season.

Louisiana (28-29) scored runs in the first two innings without benefit of a hit.  Hayden Cantrelle and Hunter Kasuls walked.  A balk moved the runners to second and third and Cantrelle scored on Todd Lott's ground ball.  The Cajuns made it 2-0 in the second when Brennan Breaux was hit by a pitch and Kole McKinnon walked.  Breaux took third on a fly ball by Connor Dupuy.  Cantrelle was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Breaux scored on a sacrifice fly by Kasuls.

Cajuns' starter Brandon Young worked out of a bases loaded, one out situation in the first and breezed through the next three innings but walked two straight batters to open the fifth.  He got Tyler Leek on a ground out and Bailey Welch on a pop up.  A passed ball allowed one run to score and Luke Drumheller's single tied the game at two.  Kendall McGowan singled Drumheller to third, but Perrin came on and got Phillip Cole on a fly ball to prevent further damage.

Young gave up three hits and two runs in his 4.2 innings of work.  He walked four and struck out eight.

The Cajuns finally got to Bowman in the sixth inning when Breaux singled with one out.  McKinnon followed with a single and Dupuy's grounder moved up the runners.  Appalachian State chose to walk Cantrelle intentionally, but the move backfired when Kasuls, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week, laced a shot inside the first base bag to score a pair of runs.

The Cajuns added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on a single by Breaux, a sacrifice, a ground ball and Cantrelle's double to left.  Kasuls then hit a ball to left center that was dropped allowing the final run to score.

Bowman took the loss, allowing three hits and two runs in 3.2 innings of work.  He walked four and struck out four.

Earlier in the day, ULM eliminated South Alabama 12-7 moving the Warhawks into a game with top seed Texas State at 6:30 Thursday.
