Friday was the beginning of the 33rd Annual Louisiana Classics and the Cajuns kicked it off by facing the Tigers of Jackson State.

Kandra Lamb got the start for Louisiana and pitched two innings of hitless softball following her dual no-hitters last weekend. She had to work around a walk and a hit batter in the first but kept the Tigers off the scoreboard.

In the bottom of the first, the Cajuns batted around and scored five runs taking advantage of three Jackson State errors. UL scored those five runs with the benefit of only two hits in that first inning.

Carrie Boswell took over in the circle in the third inning and pitched two scoreless innings.

In the third inning, the Cajuns didn't need the assistance of Jackson State to score runs as they put up three on four hits. Kara Gremillion was the one who came up with the big knock in this inning as she delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to put the cap on the inning. Louisiana led 8-0.

Another run was tacked on by Louisiana in the 4th inning when Lexie Comeaux doubled down the left field line and Morgan Gray scored the run to make it 9-0.

The 5th year senior Alison Deville got the opportunity to pitch the fifth inning and the Cajuns got the win 9-0 in five innings.

It was the Gremillion game as Kara went 1-2 with a run and two RBI's while sister Kourtney was a perfect 2-2 with a run and two RBI's as well. Carrie Boswell picked up the victory.

The Cajuns would take on the Austin Peay Governors in game two.

Summer Ellyson got the start opposed by Morgan Rackel for the Governors.

We had a scoreless contest until the bottom of the third inning when UL loaded the bases and Bailey Curry was hit by a pitch with two outs to break the scoreless tie. 1-0 Cajuns.

The Governors tied the game in the fifth inning when, with two outs, Ellyson left a pitch over the middle of the plate and Drew Dudley deposited it over the left field wall for a solo home run. We were tied at one.

The tie was short-lived as Louisiana would break the tie when Casidy Chaumont doubled down the right-field line and Keelie Milligan singled her home to snatch back the lead 2-1.

Summer Ellyson would hold the fort the rest of the way as the Cajuns took their 8th straight victory to open the season and she improved to 5-0 on the year. Chaumont also led the way hitting in the game going 2-3 and scoring the eventual game-winning run.

Up next for Louisiana they'll take on Stephen F. Austin at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
