Playing in front of a pathetic crowd of 12,558, the Hornets lost their regular season home finale on Monday night, falling to the Jazz 90-78. New Orleans shot a putrid 37.8% from the field. The Hornets (46-35) now hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference, a half game behind Memphis (46-34) and 1 1/2 games behind Portland (46-33). Here is more from the AP and

Paul Millsap scored 16 points and Gordon Hayward added 14 to help the Jazz win for only the second time in 12 games.

Chris Paul, who went scoreless for the first time in his career in a loss at Memphis a night earlier, had 15 points. Marco Belinelli, who had 13 points, was the only other starter in double figures for New Orleans, which shot 37.8 percent (28 of 74) while dropping its second straight.

Everything about Monday night's game sucked if you are a Hornets fan. Only 12,558 attended the last home game of the regular season. With everything this team has been through, a pathetic attendance like that is an absolute joke. With the NBA watching to see if Louisiana can support an NBA team, 12,558 in a home finale for a playoff bound team is unacceptable. The Hornets deserve better.

If 12,558 was the worst number of the night, 37.8 was a close second. 37.8% field goal percentage at home against a team that has lost 20 of their last 26 games is downright deplorable. Emeka Okafor, Carl Landry, and Aaron Gray could not take advantage of some great passes from Chris Paul. The three big men shot a combined 5 of 17, and mishandled the ball all night. For the second straight game, New Orleans was completely outplayed in the paint.

Now the Hornets need help if they want to finish higher than the 8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. New Orleans travles to Dallas to battle the Mavericks on Wednesday in the final game of the regular season.
