One of the toughest districts in all of Louisiana looks like it will be broken up, an Acadiana area powerhouse will drop down a classification and two "villified private school football powerhouses" will play up to Class 5A.

In the first classification meeting at the LHSAA Office on Wednesday, a plan for redistricting for 2015-16 and 2016-17 was released. In the plan, District 5-4A, known as one of the toughest districts to compete in all of the state, would be broken up. It would consist of five teams - Breaux Bridge, Cecilia, St. Martinville, Westgate and Abbeville, who would move up from Class 3A. Gone would be Northside, St. Thomas More and Teurlings Catholic. They would be in what will be known as District 4-4A, which will also consist of Beau Chene, Opelousas and Carencro, formerly of District 3-5A, which remained mostly unchanged.

Also in the proposal, Notre Dame, a Class 3A powerhouse, would drop down to Class 2A, in District 4. They would joining DeQuincy, Lake Arthur, Mamou, Vinton, Welsh and fellow powerhouse Kinder.

Statewide, the big news is that John Curtis and Evangel have elected to play up all the way to Class 5A, which means they would have to play up in all sports. According to the proposal, John Curtis would play in a 10-team district with Archbishop Chapelle, Archbishop Rummel, Archbishop Shaw, Brother Martin, Dominican, Holy Cross, Jesuit, Mt. Carmel and St. Augustine. Evangel would play in a 7-team district with Airline, C.E. Byrd, Captain Shreve, Haughton, Parkway and Southwood.
