Lafayette native and Northside alum Daniel Cormier delivered in the main event of UFC 226 Saturday night.

Cormier, the light heavyweight champion, faced off against heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in Las Vegas with the mission of becoming only the second fighter (Conor McGregor was the first) in UFC history to hold two championships simultaneously.

Mission accomplished.

Cormier knocked out Miocic 4:33 into the 1st round when he dropped him with a short right hand after he pulled away from a clinch.

"I finally accomplished everything," Cormier told Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview on pay-per-view. "From crying in this Octagon to becoming UFC heavyweight champion."

Cormier, a lifelong wrestling fan and skilled promoter, then began to sell his next potential big fight, calling WWE champion and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar into the right.

Lesnar immediately entered the octagon, pushing Cormier as the two were separated by security.

Both exchanged words before Lesnar took the mic, trashing the heavyweight division and cursing out Cormier as UFC 226 came to a close.
