Furman University marked the one FCS school on LSU's football schedule. For one half of play, LSU made Furman look like an SEC opponent, squandering opportunities and turning the football over. In fact, at halftime Saturday night in Tiger Stadium, #13 LSU only led Furman by the score of 20-16.

"We needed to play smarter football," said LSU head coach Les Miles on his team's first half performance.

The second half was a different story, as the Tigers outscored the Paladins 28-0 in route to a 48-16 victory on homecoming.

LSU's offense piled up a plethora of yards in the 3rd and 4th quarter, ending the game with 672 total, compared to Furman's 198.

204 of those yards came from Odell Beckham Jr. (pictured left) in the receiving department. Beckham Jr. became the first Tiger wide receiver since Devery Henderson in 2002 (Blue grass miracle game) to surpass 200 yards receiving.

Quarterback Zach Mettenberger didn't have his best night, throwing two interceptions (including a pick 6). By game's end, he had thrown for 328 yards and three touchdowns (two to Beckham Jr.)

The ground game of LSU was on full display, as the Tiger running backs racked up 332 yards. Jeremy Hill led the way with 143 and 2 touchdowns, while Terrance McGee added 2 more scores on 108 yards rushing.

The victory marks LSU's 45th straight in the regular season against a non conference opponent, the longest active streak in the era of the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The Tigers improved to 7-2 on the season. Next up, their biggest matchup of the season. After taking next Saturday off for a bye week, LSU travels to Tuscaloosa for a November 9th showdown with #1 Alabama.
