San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain threw the 22nd perfect game in MLB history Wednesday night, throwing an incredible 125 pitch masterpiece. In fact, it may be one of the greatest games ever thrown.

How good was Matt Cain? For starters, he struck out a career-high 14 Houston Astro batters, helping his Giants win the NL game with ease by the score of 10-0. Of the 22 perfect games in history, only the Dodgers' Sandy Koufax can match Cain's 14 strike outs. And he did in all in 9 perfect innings on only 125 pitches.

Of Cain's 125  pitches, 86 of them went for strikes. He only faced four full counts and he was clocked at 90 mph in the ninth inning.

There were a few tense moments in San Francisco. In the 6th innings, Giants left fielder Melky Cabrera had to chase down a fly ball and make a leaping catch at the wall. One inning later S.F. right fielder Gregor Blanco made a diving catch at the warning track in deep right-center.

"Those were unbelievable catches," the 27 year-old Cain said shortly after his pitching masterpiece. "I mean that right there, that changes the whole thing."

Matt Cain (8-2) also become the first San Francisco Giant to throw a perfect game, something that Hall of Famers Gaylord Perry and Juan Marichal couldn't accomplish with the storied franchise.
