The first round of the 2016 NFL Draft will be held on Thursday, April 28, in Chicago, Illinois.

Between now and then, we’ll be looking back at all of the drafts of the New Orleans Saints, from 1967-2015.

Yesterday, we looked back at 1989.

Today: 1990

The 1990 draft was the 24th draft in the history of the Saints.

The pick: Renaldo Turnbull, a defensive end from West Virginia.

A native of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Turnbull, who was the 14th-overall pick of the 1990 NFL Draft, was a reserve in his first three seasons in the NFL, totaling 60 tackles and 11.5 sacks, including 9 in his rookie campaign.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Turnbull became at full-time starter at right-outside linebacker in 1993, replacing former starter Pat Swilling, who was traded to the Detroit Lions.

He was exceptional in 1993, accumulating career-highs in both tackles, with 63, and sacks, with 13, while being named to the Pro Bowl.

Turnbull, although solid, never matched the success in he had in 1993 in his last three years with the Saints, totaling 86 total tackles and 20 sacks over that time-span, while playing both outside linebacker and defensive end.

Following the 1996 season Turnbull left the Saints, playing two games for the Carolina Panthers in 1997, where he had one sack.

In 7 seasons with the Saints, Turnbull played in 120 games, including 60 as a starter, compiling 225 total tackles and 45.5 sacks.

In 8 NFL seasons, all but one with the Saints, Turnbull appeared in 122 games, including 60 as a starter, compiling 236 tackles, 46.5 sacks, 7 fumble recoveries, d on interception.

The Saints had a solid draft in 1990, taking Central St. (Ohio) defensive back Vince Buck in the second round, Western Michigan defensive end Joel Smengee in the third round, Vanderbilt linebacker DeMond Winston in the fourth round, and Mississipp St. linebacker James Williams in the sixth round.
