No hits over 7.2 innings?

No problem.  The Cajuns had Houston right where they wanted them

Tyler Girouard was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Louisiana moved on to the championship round of the Houston Regional, beating the top seeded Cougars 2-1 before 3,792 at Cougar Field in Houston.

Houston starter Seth Romero allowed no hits and only one baserunner until there were two out in the eighth.  Evan Powell hit a solid shot between short and third for the only hit Romero would give up.  Greg Davis then walked but the inning ended when Nick Thurman struck out.

But in the ninth, Romero walked Dylan Butler to lead off the inning and was relieved after throwing 113 pitches.  Freshman Aaron Fletcher came in and Blake Trahan sacrificed Butler to second.  Joe Robbins then grounded to short.  Connor Wong looked at third but had no play on Butler and his throw was low allowing Robbins to reach.  Kyle Clement then laid down a squeeze bunt and reached when Fletcher's desperation throw to the plate was late.  Stefan Trosclair then hit a slow roller to third and beat it out to load the bases with the inning's only hit.  Fletcher then hit Girouard to set off a wild Cajuns' celebration on the field.

Freshman Gunner Leger gave up a two out homer to Chris Iriart, his 15th of the year.  But the lefty worked out of trouble in the second and sixth innings to keep the game 1-0.  Houston (43-19) threatened in the second when Corey Julks led off with a single and after Connor Wong flied out, Ian Rice followed with a single and Justin Montemayor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  But the Cajuns got a force at home on Ashford Fulmer's groundout and Leger got Kyle Survance on a fly ball to end the inning.

In the sixth, Leger gave up back to back singles to Iriart and Jacob Campbell with one out, but struck out Jelks and got Wong on a pop up.

Greg Milhorn (5-1) relieved Leger in the seventh and allowed a pair of hits in the eighth.  A ground ball moved the runners to second and third but Milhorn retired Julks on a fly ball to center, setting the stage for the Cajuns; comeback.

Fletcher (2-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing one hit and one unearned run.  The other run was charged to Romero and was also unearned.  Romero walked three and struck out eight.

The Cajuns (41-20) will play for the Regional title title tomorrow afternoon at 1pm against the Houston-Rice winner.  A second game, if necessary would be played at 6pm.
