Louisiana Ragin' Cajun right guard Kevin Dotson was named a 1st team All-American last week by two outlets, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.

Today, he was named a 1st team AP All-American, the most prestigious and honorable of college football All-American teams. He is the first player in program history to receive 1st-team AP honors.

He is the only Sun Belt representative.

The late great Orlando Thomas, a cornerback for USL in the early 90s, earned 3rd team AP AA honors in 1993, and 2nd team AP AA honors in 1994.

Dotson, a redshirt senior from Plaquemine, Louisiana, is the strongest player on the team.

He's been a key cog on the Louisiana offensive line, helping the Ragin' Cajun rushing attack to the #2 ranked team in the nation in yards per carry (6.39), #3 in rushing touchdowns (41) and #5 in total rushing yards (3,449).

After he plays his final game with Louisiana in the Lending Tree Bowl on January 6th in Mobile, he'll head to St. Petersburg to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 18th.

Other AP 1st team All-Americans include 3 LSU Tigers in Heisman trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr.

LSU safety Grant Delpit earned AP 2nd team honors, as did Clemson running back and Jennings native Travis Etienne.
