There were a total of 59 personal fouls called in the 2019-2020 Sun Belt Conference opening game as the Arkansas State Redwolves defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 79-67. In addition, there were 10 technical fouls called in this one, 7 by Louisiana and 3 by Arkansas State.

The record for total fouls in a college basketball game was 84 fouls back on January 26, 1953, between Arizona and Northern Arizona.

The tone was set early and often in this one by the officials as they had called 35 fouls in the first half and seven technicals.

The Cajuns best player Jalen Johnson fouled out with 10:42 remaining in the second half.

Later in the contest, Cedric Russell would pick up his second technical foul and be ejected from the game.

The Cajuns didn't shoot the ball well in this one either as they hit on just 38% from the field and only 25% from distance. On the contrary, the Redwolves shot it well as they were 50% from the floor and 29% from beyond the arch.

Cedric Russell led the way for Louisiana as he poured in 16 points while Tirus Smith added 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

As for Arkansas State, Marquis Eaton paced the Redwolves with 24 points and nine rebounds while Caleb Fields chipped in 18 points.

With the loss, the Cajuns fall to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
