When they accepted a bid to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns became the first Sun Belt team to accept a bowl bid for the 2012 post-season.

They were by no means the last.

A record four teams from the league were chosen to play in bowls this year.

Yesterday, Louisiana-Monroe accepted a bid to the Advocare 100 Independence Bowl in Shreveport.  It's the first ever bid for the Warhawks, who, like the Cajuns, finished 8-4 this season.  They will play Ohio University out of the Mid-American Conference.  The Bobcats were nationally ranked at one point in the season before finishing 8-4.  The game is Friday, December 28th.

Two time league champion Arkansas State is headed to the godaddy.com bowl for the second straight year.  The 9-3 Red Wolves had hoped for a bid to the Liberty Bowl, but instead will head to Mobile for the January 5, 2013 game.  Their opponent will be the MAC runnerup, Kent State (11-2), who fell in overtime to Northern Illinois in the championship game.

Also Sunday, it was announced Western Kentucky would be playing in its first ever bowl game as the Hilltoppers were selected to play in the LIttle Caesar's Bowl in Detroit on December 26.  WKU (7-5) was selected after being bypassed a year ago by the bowls.  The Toppers will play Central Michigan (6-6).  The Little Caesar's Bowl is December 26th.

A fifth bowl eligible team from the Sun Belt, Middle Tennessee (8-4) was not selected to participate in a bowl.
