In need of help on defense, but with little money to spend, the New Orleans Saints visited with veteran free agent defensive lineman Jason Hatcher last night, according to Kristian Garic of WWL Radio.

Hatcher was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, playing high school ball at Jena High and college ball at Grambling. He was a 3rd round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2006.

At 6'7, 285 pounds, he was a defensive end for the Washington Redskins 3'4 alignment the last 2 years.

In his previous 8 seasons with the Cowboys, Hatcher was listed as a defensive tackle in a 4'3 alignment. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013.

Hatcher was released by the Redskins on July 7th. He signed a 4-year, $27.5 million deal with Washington two years ago, but has dealt with knee injuries in his two seasons in D.C.

The Saints have only signed one free agent this offseason who was not with the team last year when the inked tight end Coby Fleener to a 5 year deal last week.

With only $2,551,509 in available cap space, if the Saints did offer Hatcher, it was likely not a large one.
