Ross Cook Joins UL Men’s Basketball Broadcasts

A Louisiana Classic is back.

Ross Cook, who piloted the Louisiana women's basketball program from 1984-87 and who then spent three years as color commentator for Cajuns' men's television broadcasts, has been named to the same capacity for Louisiana men's radio broadcasts for 2018-19.

The joint announcement was made Thursday by Ragin' Cajuns Sports Properties and Townsquare Media.

"In this, our first year as multi-media rights holder for Ragin' Cajuns Athletics, we are excited Ross will be joining Jay courtside this season," said Brian Billie, General Manager of Ragin' Cajuns Sports Properties. "Ross' experience both as a coach and media analyst, will add a new dimension to our broadcasts and enhance the listening experience."

Cook was 57-51 in his four years with the Cajuns' women's program.  It was Cook who recruited and signed the late Kim Perrot, who led the nation in scoring her senior season and won three WNBA titles with the Houston Comets.

"Honestly, when Ross and I first talked about this, I thought it was no more than a pipe dream," play-by-play announcer Jay Walker said as he embarks on his 27th season of Cajuns' basketball broadcasts.  "Ross and I kind of joked about how great it would be to work together again, but the more we talked, the more we realized we wanted to make it happen.  I couldn't be more thrilled."

Cook served for three seasons as color analyst on Louisiana television broadcasts on KADN-TV along side Walker before moving back to Idaho, where he has spent many years doing color commentary for NAIA basketball broadcasts as well as television analyst for the Idaho Stampeders of the NBA D-League.  He has also served as play by play announcer for the Idaho Boys State Tournament in Class 3A.

"Basketball has remained a major part of my life, even though I've been out of coaching for years,"  Cook said. "Being able to be back in Louisiana and work with Jay is like a dream come true.  I can't wait to get started."

Cook serves as a personal effectiveness trainer for the Center for Balance and Effective Communication.  He is well known as a motivational speaker.
