The New Orleans Saints made a roster move on Tuesday, one day after their exciting 30-28 season-opening victory over the Houston Texans on Monday night.

The team reinstated defensive tackle David Onyamata, who was suspended for the opener while waiving defensive end Mitchell Loewen.

The 26-year old Onyemata was suspended one game by the NFL for violating the league's substances of abuse policy.

Onyemata was issued a misdemeanor summons for marijuana possession by the Jefferson Parish Police Department in River Ridge, Louisiana back in February.

While NFL players are not suspended on their first positive marijuana test, by league rule, a player can be suspended for possession of marijuana, as it falls under the "illegal activities" umbrella of the league's abuse policy.

A 4th-round draft choice of the Saints in 2016, Onyemata has accumulated 91 career tackles, including 6.5 sacks in three years with the team.

The 26-year old Loewen, who played his college football at Arkansas, appeared in two games for New Orleans in 2017, one last season, and in Monday night's game against the Texans.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Loewen, was placed on injured reserve by the Saints in September last year, prior to being waived in December.

A native of Lahaina, Hawaii, Loewen was claimed off waiver by the Detroit Lions, before being released last month.

Loewen was signed to the practice squad of the Saints on September 1, before being placed on the active roster prior to Monday night.
