The Saints take Alabama safety Vinnie Sunseri with their first of two 5th round picks (167 overall).

Sunseri surprised many when he declared as a Junior for the NFL draft. He is coming off an ACL tear he suffered on October 19th.

At 5'11, 210 pounds, Sunseri could be taylormade for the Rob Ryan's 3-4 defense. With the Tide, Sunseri spent time as a freshmen and sophomore in the Star position, which is a cross between a linebacker, and a nickle corner. While he struggled in man-to-man coverage, he excelled near the line of scrimmage.

Showing great instincts, Sunseri worked on his coverage skills, showing improvement his Junior season. Having played linebacker in high school, and a linebacker type role in college, Sunseri could play a Roman Harper (former Saints and Tide safety) type role in Ryan's defense, excelling in situations when the defense is meant to bring pressure.

Sunseri is an instinctual player, as evidenced in this pick 6 against Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel.
