The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had never lost to the Texas State Bobcats and that didn't change on Saturday as they came away with a 42-27 victory for their first Sun Belt Conference victory of 2018.

It's been a rough start to the Ragin' Cajuns season, a game you should win that you won against Grambling, two SEC games you lost which you should have, and a tough loss to Coastal Carolina at home. This week traveling to San Marcos to face the Texas State Bobcats really felt like the beginning of the season.

It was a tough beginning to the game for the Bobcats as their starting quarterback, Willie Jones III was injured two weeks ago in a game against UT-San Antonio. Tyler Vitt stepped in to play quarterback for him on this Saturday evening.

The game started off a little slow but once the Cajuns scored they couldn't stop in the first half. Drives were lead by both Andre Nunez and one for Levi Lewis but it was the running backs who were doing most of the heavy lifting. All three guys got involved, Raymond Calais had one big catch and run, Trey Ragas compiled 79 yards and a touchdown and Elijah Mitchell ran wild for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense is where things also shined in the first half for UL as they shutout the Bobcats and held them under 200 total yards of offense. However, that would change in the second half....

It was a scoring spree by both teams in the second half as both defenses couldn't stop a thing.

The first half the Cajuns scored 28 points and in the second half, the Bobcats returned the favor scoring 27 points of their own. The only problem was that UL put up 28 in the first half and 14 more in the second half. That culminated in the 42-27 win.

It was big games for both running backs, Elijah Mitchell (20 carries, 191 yards, three touchdowns) and Trey Ragas (21 carries, 100 yards, one touchdown). Both quarterbacks played pretty well in this game as well, Andre Nunez was 9/18 for 149 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Levi Lewis was an efficient 5/5 with 81 yards and a touchdown. Receiving wise, Ja'Marcus Bradley led the way with four catches for 85 yards with a touchdown and Ryheem Malone caught his first touchdown of the season.

With the win, UL improved to 2-3 on the year and 1-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. Next weekend is homecoming as the Cajuns play host to New Mexico State. Kickoff is slated for 4 pm.
