The LSU Tigers haven't been known for their defense.

Until Saturday.

The Tigers' ran their record to 6-1 as they defeated the Florida Gators, 17-6 at Tiger Stadium Saturday at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The LSU defense, which was considered to be the weak link on the team, did a yeoman's job against the Florida offense, holding the Gators to just two field goals in leading the Tigers to their sixth win of the season.

The Tigers became bowl eligible for the 14th straight season in holding the Gators' offense to just 240 yards of offense. IOt was the first time in 32 years that the Tigers held Florida without a touchdown.

Lamin Barrow had 13 tackles to pace the Tigers, while Craig Loston added nine more, as LSU overcame four double digit drives to defeat the Gators.

Zach Mettenberger completed only 9-17 passes for 152 yards, but the Tigers' running game picked up the slack as LSU got a game high 121 yards on 19 carries to pace the Tigers' offense.

The crowd at Tiger Stadium was announced at 92,980.
