The United States shot 63% in the second half and overcame a lackluster first half to rout Venezuela 85-62 in their opening game in Group A at the Pan American Games in Toronto.

The US trailed 41-33 at halftime after shooting just 28% to 45% against the heavy underdogs.  But the Americans outscored Venezuela 52-21 after intermission, including 26-9 in the fourth quarter.

Damian Wilkins had 21 points and 10 rebounds to pace the US while former LSU star Anthony Randolph added 16.  Bobby Brown rounded out the Americans in double figures with 12 points.  7-0 Arizona center Kaleb Tarczewski led the US in rebounds with 13.

Louisiana forward Shawn Long, nursing a cut above his left eye that required three stitches, did not play in the contest.

The US will play Puerto Rico in their second game tomorrow night at 8pm.
