In the 21-16 victory Saturday for the Ragin' Cajuns football program we saw starting quarterback Jordan Davis not look like his explosive self for the second straight game.

With the ineffectiveness of Davis, Junior transfer from Iowa Western Community College, Andre Nunez got another shot at running the offense and boy was he effective.

Nunez completed 18 of 24 passes on Saturday for 213 yards and added one touchdown to go along with his first UL interception.

We heard Head Coach, Mark Hudspeth come out and say at his weekly press conference last week that if healthy Jordan Davis will be their guy. I don't disagree but what I do think is that it's smart that Andre Nunez is starting next week against Texas State and here's why.

Texas State is not the strongest of opponents as they sit at 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Sunbelt Conference. This seems like it could be a get right game for the Ragin Cajuns and Nunez has proved that he can handle himself very well when he's gotten the opportunity to be on field.

This game happens to be on a short week for the Cajuns, on a Thursday night to be exact. The team's coming home from a road trip out to Idaho. I feel like it's a smart move to allow Jordan Davis another week of rest, basically giving him an additional bye week to get himself completely right.

We've seen what Davis can do when he's completely healthy and lately we haven't seen that. I give a lot of credit to Andre Nunez for keeping himself ready with the uncertainty of playing time.

After the game, Coach Hudspeth commented on Andre Nunez's performance saying, "in the first half I thought he was as sharp as he could possibly be," He added, "he threw some big strikes, he was very accurate".

This is the right move for this football team right now to start Andre Nunez next week, he's earned it.
