A former assistant coach for both the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and the LSU Tigers has landed a head coaching job, his first at the collegiate level.

Butch Pierre, who played his college basketball at Mississippi St., will take over as head coach at Northwest Florida St. College (JC).

The 56-yeard old Pierre served as an assistant coach for the Cajuns for 8 seasons, from 1988-1986.

A native of Darrow, Louisiana, Pierre also worked as an assistant at LSU from 1997-2008, while also serving as interim head coach for the Tigers in 2008, compiling a record of 5-5.

Pierre has also served as an assistant on the staffs of Mississippi St. (1984-1986), Kentucky St. (1986-1988), Charlotte (1996-1997), Oklahoma St. (2008-2016), North Carolina St. (2016-2017), and Memphis (2017-2018) during his coaching career.
