In a preseason contest that lasted nearly 3 and a half hours, the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the New Orleans Saints 27-24. Unqualified replacement refs took center stage Friday night, showing why they are indeed "replacements." Game-altering errors, misplacements of the ball, and a bevy of unnecessary reviews were just a few of the issues the officiating crew experienced.

Despite the erroneous calls, the game must go on. Backup Jacksonville quarterback Jordan Palmer connected on an 11 yard touchdown pass to Kevin Elliott on a 4th and goal with 13 seconds left. The score lifted the Jags to a 3 point victory over the Saints.

New Orleans superstar quarterback Drew Brees played most of the first half, going 10-13 for 133 yards. He threw one touchdown, hooking up with Devery Henderson on an 8 yard score. Backup QB Chase Daniel took over late in the 2nd quarter, putting together a solid game as well, going 16-21 for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. His first score came on a pretty 53 yard strike to Joe Morgan.

One position battle Saints fans are keeping an eye on is the last running back spot. Third year pro Chris Ivory is battling with undrafted rookie Travaris Cadet. Ivory led the team in rushing with 43 yards on 10 carries. Cadet had 90 yards from scrimmage and a 24 yard TD catch from Daniel.

The Saints will remain in New Orleans for the week as they prepare to host the Houston Texans in a preseason matchup next Saturday. Starters are expected to play into the third quarter. The game will be nationally televised on CBS. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
