LSU Tops Arkansas 24-17

LSU is flying back to Baton Rouge with "The Boot" trophy after defeating Arkansas 24-17 on Saturday night at Razorback Stadium.

Arkansas scored 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to keep it interesting, but LSU was able to run out the clock with effective offense late.

The 7th ranked Tigers easily could've won 31-17, but senior running back Nick Brosette intentionally slid short of the goal line on two occasions, allowing LSU to run out the clock.

His decision will be both celebrated and agonized in betting circles as the line was LSU -13.5.

For the Tigers, the betting line doesn't matter, but the defensive line certainly does.

LSU held Arkansas to only 16 yards rushing on 19 carries.

"We played good defense," said LSU head coach Ed Orgeron. "We held them to (16) yards rushing. I thought our offensive line blocked well at the end of the 4th quarter. We held the ball in the 4th quarter like we needed to. A good team win."

Offensively, the Tigers put together 359 yards of offense (195 pass, 164 rush), led by quarterback Joe Burrow who went 15-21 for 195 yards and a 40 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to Justin Jefferson.

Jefferson led all offensive skill players with 117 yards receiving to go along with his score.

"We've got to get some things fixed, but overall it was a good team win," noted Burrow. "
"We're a tough team. We work hard every week and we're never gonna give up."

LSU is now 8-0 under Ed Orgeron when coming off of a loss.

With the victory, LSU improves to 8-2 on the season, 5-2 in SEC play.

Next up, they return home and step out of conference for senior day next Saturday night as they host the Rice Owls in the home finale. Kickoff from Tiger Stadium is set for 6:30.
