New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday underwent successful surgery today to repair a core muscle injury, the team announced in a press release.

Dr. William Meyers performed the surgery in Philadelphia.

Meyers is the surgeon many professional athletes go to to treat a core injury or a sports hernia.

The estimated recovery timetable for Holiday to return to basketball activities is 6 weeks.

The news of Holiday's injury is somewhat surprising considering head coach Alvin Gentry claimed weeks ago that Holiday's injury was not that serious.
